MANILA – The government on Wednesday broke ground on a transportation hub in southern Metro Manila which it said could ease traffic by moving 4,000 provincial buses out of major roads.
The Taguig Integrated Terminal Exchange will have a centralized ticketing area where passengers can check the schedule of their rides.
It will also feature a pedestrian walkway connection to the FTI station of the Philippine National Railways and the planned subway system.
“Kung matapos na nga ito at kung magkakaroon ng isa pang ganito, wala nang dahilan para magkaroon ng provincial buses along EDSA or sa loob ng Metro Manila,” said Metro Manila Development Authority Chairman Danilo Lim.
(Once this is finished and if there are more structures like this, there will be no reason for provincial buses to be on EDSA or inside Metro Manila.)
Transport Secretary Arthur Tugade, Public Works Secretary Mark Villar joined Ayala Corp president Fernando Zobel de Ayala and CEO Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala in the groundbreaking for the Taguig ITX at the FTI complex in Taguig City.
“It will add comfort, it will add safety. Importantly, it will add predictability. When you have predictabiility then we can ease the traffic situation,” Tugade said.
